Phytoplankton growth is essential and has a positive effect on fish nutrition in aquaculture. However, in some of the aquaculture ponds, the growth of the algae species Microcystis aeruginosa is observed, which is harmful to the growth and development of fish. This alga produces toxins known as microcystins which are harmful to the fish and retard their growth. Microcystins affect the liver and damage its functioning resulting in poor growth and certain cases leading to the death of fish.
The consumption of fish affected by microcystins is also found to be harmful to humans. The algal species Microcystis aeruginosa is observed to be prevalent in fish ponds in many states of India and is turning out to be a major problem in fish farming. To reduce the poisonous effects of microcystins, Karyotica Biologicals has developed KARYOMYCYS-i®. The results from the field trials indicate that the growth rate of fish has increased substantially even in ponds heavily infested with microcystins.
The enzymes present in the KARYOMYCYS-i® are designed to reduce the harmful effects of microcystins.
Composition:Enzymes, herbal products, amino acids, minerals, stabilizers and proprietary microcystins inhibitors.
Form : Powder
Dosage : 1 to 2 gm KARYOMYCYS-i® per kg of fish feed.
Method of application : KARYOMYCYS-i® in required quantities to be diluted in sufficient quantity of water and mixed with feed. Feed is to be dried for 15 minutes before application in the pond.
